#1: Snakes
Boa constrictors, like the one speaking to Harry in the museum, are not poisonous.
snakes are some of the scariest animals in Harry Potter. The first magical snake you will encounter is the basilisk, a legendary reptile based on real European mythology. Nicknamed the King of Snakes, the basilisk reaches up to 15 meters in length and delivers deadly consequences venom with his bite, turning anyone who makes even indirect eye contact to stone. The secret room below the school grounds contained an ancient basilica whose purpose was to purify all Muggle-born students until it was defeated by Harry Potter and Fawkes.
The second harrowing snake in the Harry Potter series is Nagini. Nagini is about 12 feet tall and is a Horcrux, meaning part of Voldemort’s soul thrives in her. Their close bond gives her the ability to communicate with him even over great distances. The bite she inflicts on her victims never closes and is often fatal. Nagini may be based on the immortal Indian mythological creature Naga (whose name means snake in Hindi).
