135 groups recently called on President-elect Joe Biden to take immediate action to combat the rapid disappearance of wildlife by signing executive order to stop the global extinction crisis and restore wildlife.

Order illustrates how Biden can take bold and aggressive action to save endangered species without Congress involvement. The United States can position itself as a leader in combating extinction, protecting public lands and waterways, reducing international wildlife trade and restoring numerous wildlife populations across the country.

Last rating International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) found that 27% Assessed plant and animal species around the world are threatened with extinction. Last year Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) warned that one million species are threatened with extinction in the coming decades. Now because of COVID-19 pandemic, Wildlife trafficking and exploitation can lead to deadly new zoonoses if left unchecked.

By signing the proposed decree, President-elect Biden will take the following key actions:

    • Declare the disappearance crisis a national emergency, which would give Biden more freedom of action under National Emergency Law take action without the approval of Congress.

    • Create 175 new national monuments, national wildlife and national marine reserves so that thirty% US lands and waters are protected 2030 g. and 50% from 2050 BC

    • Aggressively restore threatened species protecting all types that require it under Endangered Species Act, and initiate broad scrutiny by all federal agencies of any action that could harm endangered wildlife and plants. Federal agencies will also be instructed to fully integrate climate change into the conservation and restoration of endangered species.

    • Fighting the World Wildlife Trade by imposing sanctions on any country that is unable to adequately address the problem of illegal trade in wild animals and plants or deforestation.

The order is part of a package of proposals that Center for Biological Diversity and his allies will obey Biden and his team in the coming weeks. These include action to end the lease of new fossil fuels on government land and waters and address the climate emergency.

Many of the actions suggested in the order suggested were outlined in Saving life on earth a groundbreaking plan to combat extinction published by the Center in January. The plan calls for $ 100 billion to protect wildlife and half of the earth’s habitat; and to drastically reduce pollution and plastic.
