    Urgent: PETA Tips for Keeping Dogs Safe Near Frozen Lakes and Ponds in Massachusetts

    Hanson, Massachusetts. – Reports that dogs and often their guardians fall through the ice are on the rise this year. Following news reports that two dogs had to be rescued from the same frozen pond in Hanson twice this week, PETA shares tips for animal safety.

    Some of these dogs were rescued, others died, as did some of the guards who tried to rescue them. (See These recent stories of incidents in Arkansas, Mississippi, New York, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.) The following precautions can help dog guardians prevent such tragedies:

    • Always keep dogs on a secure leash and harness when walking.
    • Never allow dogs to run freely near open bodies of water.
    • In yards with unfenced pools, always walk dogs on a leash in other parts of the yard.

    PETA also encourages guardians to allow pets to live indoors with the rest of the family, as “yard dogs“And” street cats “- like in a documentary. Violation chain– suffer terribly from frostbite and may die from exposure. It was at least 37 death of companion animals associated with cold weather in 2019, and these are just the ones that were reported and most were not.
