2021 year Iditarod Death Race is just days away from its start on March 7, which means PETA has already taken to the ice in protest. Transportation of suitcases with a sports parody “Melnitsa”.hellium, ”activists descended into the Millennium-owned Lakefront Hotel (Millennium Hotels and Resorts still sponsors Iditarod) today …

… Bringing home the message that Millennium should be disgusted at the thought of supporting a race in which 150 dogs were driven to their death and many more to the point of collapse.

    Burch, victim of Iditarod

This is Birch. She suffered horrific neglect in this nursery co-owned by the former Iditarod champion. John Baker… Despite suffering an extremely painful spinal cord injury when she was a puppy, she was denied veterinary care and chained in the cold 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Up to half of the dogs that started on the Iditarod do not finish, and in the 2020 race alone, more than 220 dogs left the track due to exhaustion, illness, injury or other reasons. The main cause of death for dogs forced to race in the Iditarod is aspiration pneumonia caused by inhaling their own vomit. Many others have died in the offseason while chained outside in sub-zero temperatures or were killed because they were not considered fast enough. Thanks to PETA Investigator, the world got an idea of what it was like for some of these dogs, including the Snickers, being kept chained to the icy sea, limping, crying, and left walking in circles all day.

    Snickers, victim of the Iditarod

Rather than providing Snickers with the veterinary care and comfort she desperately needed, former Iditarod champion John Baker chained an old dog to an icy sea all alone and unable to escape the arctic cold.

As for Birch, Snickers, and countless other Iditarod victims, PETA will continue to protest the brutality of the event – expect to see activists at the start of Iditarod on March 7 in Wasilla, Alaska. We’ll be following the Death Race this year, so take a look here – this story will be updated as the 2021 Iditarod continues.

Dogs deserve more than iditarod – they need our help

Chained dogs, hungry dogs, dead dogs – no wonder so many big companiesincluding ExxonMobil, Chrysler, Alaska Airlines, Coca Cola, Jack daniels, State farm, and Wells Fargo, listened to PETA and refused sponsorship. So tell me Millennium Hotels and Resorts to stop dragging your feet and sever ties now:

If you are planning a trip or cruise to Alaska, please do not purchase packages or excursions that include dog sledding or visiting dog kennels. Also ask your friends and family not to:
