Despite the publicity, the Concord at the Glen homeowners Association (HOA) in Glenview, Illinois is reportedly discussing the possibility of capturing and removing beavers that are simply trying to make a living from property.

The lethal control of the beavers is ineffective, as the remaining ones will reproduce at an accelerated rate, while the inevitable newcomers will arrive to take advantage of the resources still available. In addition, the devices commonly used to trap and kill beavers – the Conibear trap – cause immense suffering as frightened victims are slowly crushed or drowned (which can take more than 15 agonizing minutes for beavers). Animals that don’t drown end up dying of dehydration, hunger, or shock. Such traps are also indiscriminate and pose a threat to “non-target” animals, including protected wildlife and domestic animals.

PETA briefed the obvious management company of HOA, Cagan Management Group, about the brutality and futility of death control and provided details on effective and humane advice on dealing with beavers, but now it’s your turn!

Please ask politely HOA through its management company remove deadly control from the table and instead use humane measures that prevent beavers from blocking waterways and encourage them to move elsewhere. Then send this warning to everyone you know.
