Greeley, Colorado. – PETA just received incriminating USDA reports revealing 12 federal violations in less than four months at eight Pilgrim’s Pride slaughterhouses across the country. Federal inspectors saw chickens scalded to death and / or drowned, found a live chicken in a barrel of dead birds, and found chickens caught in transport cages, including one that died after being caught by the head.

In a Georgia slaughterhouse, a worker “forcibly” threw a live chicken into an obstacle, causing the bird to fall and “choke” before dying, prompting PETA to send a letter to the local district attorney this morning asking for a review and, if necessary, charge the worker with cruelty to animals.

“These reports show that birds were thrown into hot water, thrown to death and thrown into a pile of corpses under the supervision of the second largest chicken slaughter company in the country,” says PETA Senior Vice President Daphne Nachminovic. … “PETA encourages everyone who still eats chickens to remember the painful and horrific death of these birds – and choose vegan food instead.”

PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not ours to eat,” and which opposes arrogance, a worldview based on human superiority, received the tapes at the request of the Freedom of Information Act. Violations occurred in massacres in Alabama, Georgia, Minnesota, Texas and West Virginia.
