South African National Parks (SANParks) announced another well-run operation, which resulted in the arrest of three more poaching suspects. Wednesday April 21st in the section “Crocodile Bridge” Kruger National Park (KNP). In the course of the successful operation, a large-caliber hunting rifle, ammunition and poaching equipment were seized.
Rangers found the tracks of three people early in the morning and began pursuing suspected rhino poaching. The Airwing unit was called in to support ground teams using helicopter and aircraft; one suspect was arrested shortly thereafter. After tracing the tracks throughout the day, the two remaining suspects were detained in the late afternoon and handed over to the police. South African Police Service (SAPS) for further processing.
“Yesterday was another long day for our anti-poaching teams in difficult conditions, but they showed tenacity and great teamwork. Congratulations to everyone who was involved. The arrests have brought the number of those arrested in the past five days to eight. Three rifles, ammunition and hunting gear were confiscated, boosting the morale of rangers, aviators and K9 in the battle to protect and preserve rhinos in the KNP, which bore the brunt of the attack by international rhino poaching syndicates, South African National Parks (SANParks) said in statement.
