Alaska Iditarod Sled Dog Race it is nothing short of a nightmare ordeal for dogs forced to run roughly 1,000 miles, pulling a heavy sled in some of the most grueling conditions on Earth. More than 150 dogs died during the race, not counting those who were injured and died. while chained outside off-season or fatalities due to lack of speed or stamina to succeed. However, Alaska telecom provider GCI continues to support Iditarod through its sponsorship.

The dogs forced to flee to Iditarod are no different from the ones we live with in our homes – they just want to live and enjoy their lovemaking companionship. Making them a race is a form of arrogance, discrimination based solely on race.

    Sample letter
    Thing:
Please stop sponsoring the deadly iditarod

    Body:
    Dear Ronald Duncan:

I was dismayed to learn that GCI is sponsoring Iditarod despite its egregious history of dog abuse.

More than 150 dogs have died in the race, not counting countless others who have suffered and died in the offseason while being chained or killed simply because they lacked the speed or stamina to pass the assessment. Up to half of those who start do not finish, and in the 2021 race alone, nearly 200 dogs left the track due to exhaustion, illness, injury or other reasons.

Please follow the example of former top sponsors ExxonMobil and Wells Fargo, as well as Alaska Airlines, Chrysler, Coca-Cola, Jack Daniel’s and other major companies in severing ties to Iditarod.

    Thanks for attention.
