Norfolk, Virginia. – By requesting entries with the Delaware Thoroughbred Horse Racing Commission, PETA received a graphic video of racehorse trainer Amber Cobb screaming, scolding, and beating a frightened, bound filly filly with a plastic pitchfork – and the group is demanding that all racing jurisdictions in the US and Canada ban her …

Records show the beating took place earlier this year in New Jersey. The video shows that the filly was so scared that she rolled over and fell to the floor, desperate to avoid being hit. Cobb left her upside down and tied to the wall, unable to rise. Finally, a jockey entered the stall and untied her. Cobb’s racing license was suspended for only two months in Delaware and Pennsylvania, and she was ordered to attend anger management classes – a “punishment” that is hardly commensurate with the abuse, nor sufficient deterrent to protect other horses from Cobb.

“Amber Cobb should never be allowed to approach a horse again,” says PETA Senior Vice President Katy Guillermo. “There must be zero tolerance for attack, especially against a totally vulnerable person, and PETA is asking all racing jurisdictions to show they understand this by banning Cobb from all circuits.”

Cobb has repeatedly violated racing rules, including illegal possession of filled syringes and “brawling” in a public place on a New York track. A former employee claimed that Cobb punished the horse by refusing to eat for four days. She has raced in Delaware, Maryland, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

A detailed description of the incident is also published in Polik’s report…

PETA stands against racism, a worldview based on human superiority. For more information on collecting news and reporting on PETA investigations visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
