Norfolk, Virginia. – Because tropical storm and storm surge warnings are in effect in areas of Texas including Beaumont, Galveston and Victoria, PETA is issuing a reminder to never leave dogs on leashes or paddocks outside and always bring companion animals with you if you need to evacuate. …
Believe it or not, every time a natural disaster strikes, many dogs and other companion animals stay outside to take care of themselves, and even get left behind when people are evacuated. Leashed dogs will swim to exhaustion and drown – and tethered dogs are everywhere. PETA Animal Rescue Team has witnessed the injuries that animals receive when they are thrown, when they are faced with flooding and flying debris. We found dead dogs in previous storms. We also found dogs up to their necks in water, unable to sit or lie down, and in nearly flooded boxes inside houses. and saw animals that were blown away by a strong wind. And, of course, the animals are petrified in such weather conditions.
PETA released PSA – Disaster Preparedness with Dean Winters… It serves as a reminder to plan for the safety of companion animals well in advance of evacuation. For more information please visit PETA.org…
