Rich Square, North Carolina – The family of the deceased Revs Dr. Paul A. and Viola T. Bishop will join the writer Shelia P. Moses and the PETA representatives as they cut the ribbon on the new Small free librarydedicated to Bishops and donated by PETA to Moses’ Little Free Library of Northampton County. Bishop’s family provided him with books, and PETA also donated books from its free Barks & Books program, which distributes children’s books with messages of kindness and compassion for animals.

“When children read about animals, they develop both reading skills. and their empathy for other people of all kinds, ”says PETA Senior Vice President Daphne Nachminovich. “PETA is honored to support the Northampton County Free Small Library Project and the young readers in the area.”
The Northampton County Free Small Library Project was designed to help every family in the county obtain books in the hope of benefiting children and adults for generations to come. PETA previously donated a small free library near Cuz (formerly Majette’s Grocery) in Harisburg. His other work in Northampton County includes over 15 years of helping families care for dogs by delivering durable wooden dog kennels, insulating straw mats and nutritious food; providing preventive care such as deworming, flea and insect treatment; and transportation of animals to and from sterilization / castration surgery is all free.
The ribbon cutting ceremony, which will be streamed live on Moses’ Facebook page, will honor bishops for their work as community leaders, particularly through education. Among many other accomplishments, Dr. Bishop established the Blacks’ first public library with a book mobile to serve Northampton County. In 1959, the parish renamed its Negro library as the Senior Bishop Library. Although this library has since closed, the Northampton Memorial Library recently renamed its programming room in honor of Dr. and Mrs. Bishop, who taught mathematics at the Rich Square Institute and served as its first school librarian after it was renamed W.C. Chrisi.
