Washington – When the animal experimenter tweeted that Senator Rand Paul described his experiments as “spraying alcoholic rats with lynx urine “, he asked his Twitter colleagues to “summarize incorrectly” his work.

The result was a fresh stream of professional accolades like never before seen by PETA. We have studied the work of the experimenters and confirmed that what they say is indeed true.

    Here are two examples:

“Makes monkeys become masters and then kills them”

    – Posted by David Jench, SUNY Binghamton

    “Stuns, kills and maims mice”

    – The author of MadScientistPhD is most likely Mike Kasten of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.

Many may find Rand Paul controversial, but we just had to thank him.

“We urge you to continue to tell it as it is and to do your best to redirect funds away from animal research to more advanced animal-free methods,” PETA Senior Vice President Katy Guillermo wrote in a letter to Paul.

This is followed by a letter from PETA to Paul.

    February 4, 2021

    The Honorable Rand Paul

    US Senate

    Washington DC 20510

    Dear Senator Paul,

On behalf of PETA and our 6.5 million members and supporters, I would like to thank you for your avoiding words when describing an animal experiment. According to @The_Gilp, who we believe is Nicholas Gilpin, professor of physiology at Louisiana State University, you described his animal studies as “sprinkling lynx urine on alcoholic rats.” This sparked a storm of tweets of confessions from animal experimenters, including the following:

Makes monkeys become tweakers and then kills them

    By David Yench, SUNY Binghamton

    Stuns, kills and maims mice

The author of “MadScientistPhD”, which may be Mike Kasten of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine

Traumatize teen rats and feed them to death with convenient food

    Johnny Figueroa, Loma Linda University

This rare glimpse of truth by those who imprison and harm animals in laboratories – despite 90% of basic research failing to cure humans – is a rare and selfless glimpse into a highly secret world. Since this world is largely funded by American taxpayers, we certainly have a right to know what is being done on our behalf and with our dollars. These descriptions are also alarming as we fight the pandemic. There is a clear need for medical research that does not waste resources. We have vaccines for COVID because companies doing some animal research have been allowed to circumvent the usually required multiyear animal testing.

You may find the attached list of amazingly honest descriptions helpful. Although experimenters have been asked to “summarize incorrectly” their work as they imagine, we know from our research in published articles and public reports that these experimenters acknowledge what they are doing behind closed laboratory doors.

We encourage you to continue to talk about it as it is and to do your best to redirect funds away from animal research to more advanced non-animal methods. To this end, we invite you to revise our migration strategy, which you can see here.

    Yours faithfully,

    Katie Guillermo

    Senior vice president
