Washington – Below you can find statement from PETA Senior Vice President Cathy Guillermo on PETA’s international campaign urging President Joe Biden not to hire another “dinosaur” to head the National Institutes of Health, now that Francis Collins is leaving the agency at the end of the year. PETA Dinosaurs Follow Biden to Washington DC; Rome; and now Glasgow, next stops in Baltimore; Kearney, New Jersey; Hartford, Connecticut; and Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Dinosaurs roam the Earth again, and their final stop is the Global Climate Summit in Scotland. They want to make sure that President Joe Biden has hired a visionary director to lead the NIH, someone who does the latest high-tech research, and not another dinosaur who prefers to fund outdated animal experiments. Torture by hounds and monkeys losing their minds are just two examples of the ethical, financial, and scientific failures of the NIH. The agency spends more than $ 19 billion annually on animal research, despite clear evidence that harm to animals is not a cure for human disease. PETA is urging the President to bring the US back to the forefront of good science by immediately accepting our deal to modernize research for both humans and animals. As with the climate crisis, this cannot wait.
PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not ours to experiment on” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human excellence. For more information on our news collection and reporting, please visit PETA.org or subscribe to us on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
