Harbeson, Del. – In service with the USDA. reports After discovering that the Allen Harim Foods slaughterhouse was charged with 16 federal violations in less than three months after the chickens were scalded to death or drowned on at least 11 different days and buried alive in piles of dead chickens and feces, PETA sent this letter. In the morning, David Weiss, the US Attorney for the District of Delaware, he urged him to consider the matter and, if necessary, bring criminal charges against the plant and the workers involved.
“Chickens are subject to state law. They also feel pain, but these birds were usually thrown into boiling water while they were alive at Allen Harim, ”says PETA Senior Vice President Daphne Nachminovich. “Systemic suffering like this warrants investigation, and PETA is also calling on the public to take effective action simply by eating vegan food.”

Dear Mr. Weiss:
We are asking your office to investigate and bring appropriate criminal charges against Allen Harim Foods, LLC and employees responsible for at least 16 Poultry Products Inspection Act (PPIA) violations between January 6 and March 23, 2020, until address: his chicken slaughterhouse located at 18752 Harbeson Rd. in Sussex. The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has documented the incidents in the attached reports, which PETA has just received upon request from open sources.
Chickens were reportedly drowned and / or scalded to death for a minimum of 11 days during this period, including after being cut across the head and near the beak rather than across the carotid arteries. Federal officials reported that they repeatedly found live chickens buried among the dead, including in a trash can and a pile of carcasses, and a pile of feces nearly 2 feet high. When the FSIS agent approached the apparent slaughterhouse worker after one such discovery, the worker apparently responded that the “large number” of chickens arriving dead at the slaughterhouse did not leave “enough space” on the sorting table to observe the animals and “ensure that They are [were] not alive ”before throwing them away. The next day, a federal inspector found three dead chickens in the sewers, where they had apparently drowned.
21 United States Code § 461 (a) penalizes imprisonment for up to one year and / or a fine of up to $ 1,000 for such behavior. The abuse of live chickens in this slaughterhouse shows that enforcement by FSIS is not enough to prevent future violations and that it is in the best interest of the animals and society killed there to prosecute.
