Chicago – After PETA learned of deadly animal experiments on at least 172 mice using products provided by the Blommer Chocolate Company, the largest cocoa processor and supplier of chocolate ingredients in North America – although its parent company, Fuji Holdings Inc. Banned Animal Testing – PETA immediately urged the subsidiary to adhere to this policy. After negotiations, Blommer just announced that it “will not fund, conduct, or commission animal testing” and “will stipulate product donations for experiments that the product will not be used in testing on deadly animals.”

“Good customers will be delighted to know that the Blommer Chocolate Company has stopped supporting cruel mouse testing,” says PETA Vice President Shalin Gala. “Banning wasteful, curious, deadly animal experiments is a victory for both lab prisoners and consumers, and PETA is leading efforts to end this testing in the global food and beverage industry.”

As part of its campaign to end animal testing in the global food industry, PETA has revealed how, over the decades, various manufacturers have funded, conducted or supported laboratory tests in which thousands of animals have been slaughtered, tortured and killed – all in erroneous attempts to make marketing claims about products ranging from ramen noodles to chocolate bars, breakfast cereals to liqueur.

Blommer joins a growing roster of dozens of companies, including several large chocolate makers such as Arcor, Barry Callebaut, Ezaki Glico Co., The Hershey Company, Lindt & Sprüngli, Meiji Co. and Ritter Sport, who have worked with PETA to stop or never test food and drink on animals.

PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not ours to experiment on” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human excellence. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
