Providence, Rhode Island – To encourage residents of Providence, one of the 10 most romantic cities in the country, according to recent polls, to swap their seafood dinner for a vegan feast this Valentine’s Day, PETA ran ads on local buses urging everyone to “spice it up” tonight “with tofu. …
“PETA asks everyone to show be in love animals by removing them from the Valentine’s Day menu, ”says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “From crabs and shellfish to chickens and humans – we are all the same when it comes to feeling pain and fear and value our own lives – and we all deserve compassion.”
Anyone who goes vegan saves about 200 animals each year; reduces the risk of heart disease, diabetes, obesity and cancer; and significantly reduces the carbon footprint. Tofu is not only cheaper than meat, but also rich in protein and does not contain cholesterol. And while SARS, swine flu, avian flu, and COVID-19 all have to do with restricting and killing animals for food, tofu never a pandemic began.
