Norfolk, Virginia. – See below PETA Vice President Shalin Gala’s statement about a South Korean dairy company that has been sued by that country’s Food and Drug Safety Administration for falsely claiming that yogurt prevents COVID-19 because no animal tests or clinical trials have been conducted.

The false claims that yogurt prevents COVID-19 are flawed in many ways. To make matters worse, South Korea’s Food and Drug Administration has proposed testing on animals first. Poisoning, injuring, and killing animals in brutal experiments to make public health claims while marketing conventional foods like yogurt is as smart as putting a net on a submarine because companies can easily test conventional foods on human volunteers. PETA asked South Korea to drop the requirement and accept animal test results to support health claims for marketing food products in 2018, and we are still waiting. After discussions with PETA, dozens of global food companies have adopted policies that ban animal testing.

PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not ours to experiment on” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human excellence. For more information please visit PETA.org…
