Johnson City, Tennessee. – PETA is offering rewards up to $ 5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction on charges of cruelty to those responsible for arresting, beating and hitting a cat, whose body was found in the parking lot of the Appalachian Funeral Home on Sunday.

The cat’s body was not in the parking lot when the funeral home worker arrived at 10:30 am, but the employee made the horrific discovery around 1:00 pm and called the police. Someone tied the orange and white cat’s hind legs with duct tape and severely injured its head, possibly with a screwdriver found nearby, and bloody tire marks indicate that its head had moved.

Case photos are too awful to share. The police investigation has yet to find any leads, and PETA is hoping for public help to solve the case before other cats are injured or killed.

“This cat had to be safe in a home with a loving family and instead endure a horrible and painful death at the hands of someone who needs to be caught before harming anyone else,” says PETA vice president Colleen O ‘ Brian. “PETA encourages everyone with information to come forward and possibly save lives.”

PETA notes that some people consider free-walking cats to be “pests.” All over the country, these cats are shot, poisoned and taken away by angry residents. They are also maimed, drowned, beaten, set on fire, used in ritual sacrifices, or used by dog fighters as “bait”. Cats can live happily indoors and should only be allowed to explore nature under the watchful eye of their guardians.

Anyone with a tip should contact the Johnson City Washington County Animal Shelter at 423-926-8769 or the Johnson City Police Department at 423-434-6000.

PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way,” is opposed to arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
