South Portland, Maine “To encourage the residents of Maine, one of the country’s most romantic states, according to recent polls, to replace their lobster dinner with a vegan feast on Valentine’s Day, PETA ran ads on local buses urging everyone to“ spice it up tonight. ” With tofu.
“PETA is asking everyone to show a little love for animals by removing them from the Valentine’s Day menu,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “From lobsters and lambs to chickens and humans, we are all the same when it comes to feeling pain and fear and appreciating our lives – and we all deserve compassion.”
Anyone who goes vegan saves about 200 animals each year; reduces the risk of heart disease, diabetes, obesity and cancer; and significantly reduces the carbon footprint. Tofu is not only cheaper than meat, but also rich in protein and does not contain cholesterol. And while SARS, swine flu, avian flu, and COVID-19 all have to do with restricting and killing animals for food, tofu never a pandemic began.
