Portland, Oregon. – See Statement by Dr. Alka Chandna, Ph.D., PETA’s Vice President of Laboratory Investigations, regarding a newly received federal document pointing out critical animal welfare violations at Legacy Health in Portland, Oregon:
It is suspicious of the belief that a facility that cannot administer anesthesia without killing an animal patient can be trusted to provide optimal medical care. Just released government documents obtained by PETA show that Legacy Health was named for a critical violation of federal animal welfare laws for failing to provide adequate veterinary care to the monkey that was used in the experimental procedure. The valve on the anesthesia machine was left closed, the monkey experienced difficulty breathing and eventually suffered what must have been an excruciating and excruciating death from pressure-induced lung injury.
The hundreds of animals, including monkeys, sheep, pigs and genetically modified mice that experiment and kill each year in Legacy Health labs, feel pain and cherish their lives as much as any of the company’s leaders, so Legacy Health does not hurt. modernize their experimental program, leaving behind archaic and brutal animal testing and using only sophisticated research methods that are relevant to humans.
PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not ours to experiment on” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human excellence. For more information on PETA news gathering and reporting, please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
