Columbus, Ohio – Below you will find a statement by PETA Foundation Assistant General Counsel for Captive Law Enforcement Brittany Peet regarding the Zoos and Aquariums Association’s announcement of the denial of accreditation to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, in large part due to the fact that she supplied unaccredited baby animal accommodations for entertainment purposes:
Refusing to provide services for the delivery of baby big cats to King of the tigers –in the style of roadside zoos, the Zoos and Aquariums Association (AZA) has once again distinguished itself from such infamous “accrediting” organizations as American Humane and the Zoological Association of America. PETA celebrates this decision by warning AZA-accredited zoos to keep vulnerable young animals out of the hands of exploiters and reminding the public to stay away from businesses that trade tiger cubs like chess pieces.
PETA – whose motto is partly that “animals are not ours to be used for entertainment” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human excellence.
