Raleigh, North Carolina – Tomorrow, PETA demonstrators will take a life-size statue of a dog with over 142,000 petition signatures to the Ajinomoto office to protest the giant’s use of monosodium glutamate in dogs and other animals in cruel and unnecessary experiments.

When: April 29, Thursday, 12 noon

    Where: 4105 Poole Rd., Raleigh

Since the 1950s, Ajinomoto experimenters have cut open dogs’ stomachs, inserted tubes, starved animals, fed them monosodium glutamate, ingested juices, and injected them with drugs, ostensibly to substantiate health claims for marketing the company’s foods and ingredients. Some of his other tests included inserting tubes into the arteries of day old piglets and starving them, electroshocking the rats, and forcing the mice to fight each other. PETA notes that these animal tests are not relevant to human health and are not required by law.

“It is shameless to kill dogs and other sensitive animals in order to make dubious claims about the health of MSG and other foods,” says PETA Vice President Shalin Gala. “PETA’s protest reflects the wishes of more than 142,000 friendly consumers that demand that Ajinomoto follow the lead of other global food companies and end animal testing.”

PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not ours to experiment on” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human excellence. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
