Norfolk, Virginia. – Former Walmart CEO Mark Lohr announced plans to create a sustainable, equitable and inclusive city called Telos, so PETA sent him a letter today stating that given everything we know about the climate crisis, livestock is responsible for almost all of this. a fifth of all greenhouse gas emissions – and the brutality associated with industrial agriculture and slaughter, such a city need be vegan. If Lore gives in, PETA will provide 50,000 vegan starter kits for the city’s first residents and prepare vegan barbecues in Telos Park.

“There is no utopia if refrigerators are full of animal parts from environmentally destructive industries,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA hopes to celebrate a truly sustainable city with a vegan barbecue.”

PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not ours to eat,” opposes arrogance, a worldview based on human superiority. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…

This is followed by a letter from PETA to Laura.

    Mark Laure

    Founder

    Telos city

    Dear Mr. Lore:

I am writing on behalf of PETA and over 9 million of our members and supporters around the world to congratulate you on your vision of a sustainable, equitable and inclusive city. As the United Nations has stated that a global transition to vegan diets is essential to tackle the worst impacts of climate change, we hope that you will take into account the profoundly negative impacts of livestock, including dairy farming, on the environment (in addition to animals and human health ) and make Telosa a completely vegan city. We’ll be happy to help by sending a copy of our free vegan starter kit to everyone in town and having a festive vegan barbecue in one of the town’s parks.

I’m sure you understand that the link between climate change and livestock production is widely documented. An analysis of the impact of the food system on the environment showed that a sharp reduction in meat consumption and a 60% reduction in dairy consumption in Western countries is insignificant. essential to avoid dangerous climate change. Globally, the average person also needs to eat 75% less beef, 90% less pork, and half the eggs. In fact, meat production is such a devastating impact on every aspect of our environment that the Union of Concerned Scientists considers it the second-greatest environmental threat facing the Earth, and Oxford University study found that avoiding animal products can reduce the level of harm to humans. the carbon footprint of food by 73%. As vegan climate activist Greta Thunberg says, animal husbandry is “stealing” her generation’s future.

The Amazon is on fire and the jungle is being destroyed to grow soybeans to feed animals for U.S. consumption. pastures or sheds of factories and farms, and untreated animal waste pollute rivers and streams. Simply put, the production of meat, dairy products and eggs is unsustainable. Raising plant-based chickens is 18 times more efficient than raising flesh and blood chickens. Luckily, we also have access to an endless variety of healthy as well as organic vegetables, fruits, grains and legumes.

A city cannot be considered a utopia if animals are slaughtered for food. As HG Wells once wrote: “There is no meat in the whole world of Utopia. It used to be. But now we cannot bear the thought of slaughter. ” While the top three killers in the United States – heart disease, cancer, and strokes – are all meat-related – an all-vegan city would be cause for massive celebration. We wish you every success and thank you for your attention.

    Yours sincerely,

    Ingrid Newkirk

    The president
