Washington – A group of PETA supporters with signs with a pig face next to the words “Why did you leave me?” will hand out free vegan ham sandwiches – from the local NuVegan Cafe – tomorrow, just days before Easter and just around the corner from the Basilica of the National Temple of the Immaculate Conception, the country’s largest Catholic church.

When: Wednesday, March 31, 12:30 pm

Where: Intersection of Monroe Streets and Northeast Michigan Avenue, Washington

Alongside, a new PETA advertisement depicting Moses holding a bunch of carrots reminds passers-by that there is no exception to the commandment not to kill.

“Thou shalt not kill” should apply to everyone, including tender and loving pigs, ”says PETA Vice President Daniel Paden. “This Easter, PETA is encouraging Christians to celebrate the resurrection with a compassionate vegan meal that leaves God’s creation alone.”

The Bible clearly states that God’s purpose for the world was one in which humans and other animals coexisted peacefully, and humans were guardians, not murderers. In Genesis 1:29, God says that the seed plants and fruits of the earth “will be your food.” But pigs killed for food are living hell on Earth: workers cut off their tails, cut their teeth with pliers, castrate males – all without painkillers – and slit their throats in slaughterhouses.

PETA’s “Thou shalt not kill” ad is located at 3400 12.th St. NE

PETA, whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours to eat” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority.
