Miami – In a double punch against the imprisonment of Lolita’s killer whale at the Miami Marine Aquarium, PETA protesters will hang a huge 30-foot banner from the busy flyover on I-95 during Friday morning rush hour calling for its release – and then they will head to the park as it opens. to convince people to stay away.

When: Friday, February 19, 8:15 am

Where: NW 14th Street and I-95 S., Miami (banner fall)

    When: Friday, February 19, 10.00

Where: Miami Aquarium, 4400 Rickenbacker Cswy., Miami (park protest)

Lolita was abducted from the ocean with her family and kept in the Miami Aquarium – the smallest killer whale aquarium in the world – for 50 years. She is denied the opportunity to dive, swim farther than her body length, seek refuge from the scorching Florida sun, or establish social relationships with others of her species. Another killer whale, once kept in the same tank, Hugo, died after hitting its head several times against a wall in 1980. Lolita exhibits repetitive and abnormal behavior indicative of severe mental distress.

“Lolita’s many years of imprisonment in the Miami Sea Aquarium is shameless,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. PETA urges the park to end her torment and send her to the coastal sanctuary.

PETA, whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours to be used for entertainment” – opposes arrogance, which is a worldview focused on human superiority. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
