Fort Worth, TX – PETA visits Panther City – home of “the world’s only year-round rodeo”, as well as many barbecues, steakhouses and other butchers in Fort Worth’s barnyards – with a sky-high message of compassion for cows courtesy of a giant new billboard encouraging people to experience the idea that they are living, breathing creatures, not steaks, ribs or hamburgers.
“Cows are intelligent, self-aware people who feel love, joy and fear, and they deserve better than being killed for food and intimidated for fun,” says PETA executive vice president Tracy Reiman. “PETA Billboard Calls People steer away from the rodeos and all the meatyards out there and around town. “
The meat industry brands cows, castrates them, and rips their horns out of their skulls, often without pain relievers. The workers then pack the animals into filthy feedlots and eventually into trucks for a horrific ride to the slaughterhouse. Countless animals used to make rodeo goggles have suffered debilitating and even fatal injuries, including back and neck fractures, heart attacks and aneurysms.
The billboard is located at 711 W. 13.th St., close to Fort Worth’s stockyards and less than a mile from PF Chang’s, Taco Bell and Lolas Cuban Food.
