Atlanta – “I am I, not MEAT.” It is a message from the fish appearing in PETA’s new ad across the street from Captain D’s, Georgia’s more than any other state, prompting the company to become the first seafood chain to offer one of the latest developments. in healthy and organic food: vegan fish.

PETA is stepping up its efforts following the release of the Netflix documentary. Sea piracywhich explores the global fishing industry and challenges the notion of “sustainable” fisheries. The group praised the film for explaining how human actions cause widespread environmental destruction.

“Today, most burger chains offer vegan patties, so selling a vegan fish sandwich to help the planet should be an easy task,” says PETA executive vice president Tracy Reiman. “PETA billboard will help people sea the gentle and inquisitive animals behind every fish sandwich or shrimp taco. “

More fish die each year for food – billions in US waters alone – than all other animals combined. These animals, now known to feel pain as keenly as mammals, have long-term memories and sing underwater, pierce, crush, gasp, or cut and gut, all conscious. Aquafarms, containing thousands of fish prone to lice infestation due to rearing in dirty and cramped enclosures, are creating an ecological disaster.

PETA – whose motto, in part, is that “the animals are not ours to eat,” and which opposes specisism, a worldview based on human superiority, notes that many varieties of artificial fish are available today, including Golden Fishless Filets Gardein and Good Catch’s Plant. Tuna-based, new plant-based shrimp from New Wave Foods and Sophie’s Kitchen vegan crab cakes.

The billboard is located at Metropolitan Pkwy, 2016. SW
