Las Vegas – Tomorrow on Earth Day, a PETA supporter dressed as a turkey will overnight outside Ike’s Love & Sandwiches on Durango Drive to hand out the chain’s new vegan sandwich, Earth Angel. The sandwich, created by Ike for PETA’s Become a Vegan for the Earth campaign, features a hearty pile of meat-free turkey, dairy-free mozzarella, mushrooms, cabbage and Ike’s iconic Dirty Secret on Dutch Bread sauce.

When: Thursday, April 22, 11:30 am

Where: Ike, 4350 S Durango Dr. (near the intersection with W. Rochelle Avenue), Las Vegas

“Ike’s sandwich with an earthly angel is heavenly a way to save animal lives, save water and reduce carbon emissions, ”says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “The PETA Giveaway will encourage people to become Power of nature for the planet if there is vegan food on Earth Day and every other day. “

Livestock is depleting fresh water supplies; pollutes groundwater, lakes and rivers; and is a major cause of ocean dead zones, species extinction and habitat destruction. According to some estimates, it accounts for about 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, which may be more than all global transport systems produce together.

It also causes massive animal suffering. Turkeys are curious, playful birds that in nature love to socialize, spend the night, gather food and take care of their young. But in the meat industry they are dragged through an electrified bath, and are often still conscious when their throats are slit and thrown into scalding tanks to be emptied.

The limited edition sandwich will be sold at at least 60 of Ike’s locations across the country for one week, with a portion of the proceeds going to support PETA’s animal welfare work. More than 50 other restaurants are also participating in PETA’s Earth Day campaign.

PETA, whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours to eat” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
