Sipping margaritas on the beach may seem like the perfect spring break, but that’s not all Cancun has to offer. As partygoers flocked to the popular spring break destination this year, PETA Latino teamed up with Mexican TV presenter and longtime supporter Marco Antonio Regil to help revelers add something important to their itineraries: helping Cancun’s cats and dogs.

Teaming up with Regil, Cancun Mayor Mara Lesama Espinoza and Dirección de Protección y Bienestar Animal Municipal Animal Shelter, PETA Latino hosted a neuter / neuter event on April 6 and 7 where residents could “secure” their companion animals for free. PETA Latino’s goal was to neuter 200 local cats and dogs.and the group managed to cure a total of 136 dogs and 64 cats.!

Regil first spoke with local residents about the importance of neutering and neutering to end the cycle of animal homelessness. In Cancun, countless cats and dogs wait for their homes in shelters or fight to survive on the streets – where they avoid traffic, search for leftover food, are abused by violent people and face many other difficulties.

Regil has a special place in his heart for these animals: he found his beloved canine companion, Bernie, on the side of the road during a bicycle race. He left the race, picked up Bernie and drove him home!

Regil, the 2015 PETA Humanitarian Award winner, also encouraged tourists and locals to make kind donations to Bienestar Animal or another local rescue group in the form of dog food, blankets, toys, abuse-free cleaning products, leashes, seat belts and other supplies. …

From Cancun to Virginia, PETA’s Sterilization / Sterilization Initiatives Matter: 2020 Only PETA’s Mobile Clinics Unit neutered over 13,000 cats and dogspreventing thousands more from being born to be abandoned, homeless, abandoned or abused.

Each “cut off” animal means a myriad more salvation: just one unpaid bitch and her offspring can produce 67,000 puppies in just six years, and one cat and her offspring can produce 370,000 kittens in seven years. Sterilization also eliminates the risk of contracting deadly diseases such as uterine or testicular cancer. The road to ending unnecessary animal suffering begins with animal birth control.

You, too, can change the world for the better! Help PETA and PETA Latino continue to carry out sterilization / sterilization rescue operations like Cancún spay-a-thon this year.
