Berkeley, California. “Young scientists from the University of California at Berkeley have made headlines about their ongoing work to develop robots that will replace dogs that spend their days leading blind people – and now that the school year has kicked off, PETA offers a great new incentive to do so. year class to get their thinking caps. The group is seeking student applications for the Future Without Speciesism Cash Award, which is accompanied by prize up to $ 10,000 for interesting innovations that can help end animal suffering, protect the planet for future generations, and improve human health.
To win, candidates must identify how animals are still subject to specialism – the archaic notion that humans are superior to other animals and therefore have the right to exploit them – and develop an action plan or design for a market-free animal replacement. Other examples of the golden star include researchers at the University of Missouri who patented the process now used to create in vitro (or in vitro) chicken and helped develop abovethe popular Beyond Meat; and young scientists from Iowa State University, who once received a PETA grant to develop a placenta on a chip that would replace the use of animals in poisoning tests.
“Fantastic inventions for animals have been created by the University of California, Berkeley before, and PETA hopes to give a boost to the next students who have a lightbulb moment to modernize the practice or industry that currently uses animals,” says PETA’s senior director. The award is open to all students from all over the world. It does not transfer ownership of PETA, nor does it prevent applicants from patenting their inventions. Students can work as a team or individually. Prize amounts vary between 1000 USD and USD 10,000 and will be determined by PETA based on the performance, usability and viability of the submissions.
