Derry, New Hampshire – Following pressure from PETA and local groups, including NH Citizens Against Recreational Trappers, the Miss New Hampshire Fellowship Program will no longer reward contest winners with fur coats provided by the New Hampshire Hunters Association. In gratitude for the end of this multi-year sponsorship, PETA is sending a box of rabbit-shaped vegan chocolates to the board of directors.
“No gracious winner of the competition wants to celebrate their new title by hanging dead animals on their shoulders,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. PETA celebrates the humane image of the Miss New Hampshire Fellowship Program, which empowers women to listen to their conscience and reject violence.
PETA notes that animals trapped by their fur can suffer for several days from blood loss, shock, dehydration, frostbite, gangrene and predator attacks before hunters return to shoot, trample or beat them to death. … Major fashion brands including Saint Laurent, Neiman Marcus, Canada Goose, Valentino, Chanel, Prada, Gucci, Versace, Burberry and Michael Kors are dumping fur en masse, and the Miss Florida USA pageant has stopped rewarding fur coats with decade winners. back.
PETA – whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human excellence. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
