I just received an email asking why I never posted about PETA’s recent Chipotle win, and that for activists, information about these successes can make a huge difference, as it shows that their hard work pays off and that it’s slow. but we are surely changing both public opinion and the attitude of large corporations about how animals should be treated. Well, well, that’s fair enough. So this post is about the good news. Check this:

    1. Following negotiations between PETA and Chipotle Mexican Grill, the company agreed to prioritize procurement from suppliers that use controlled atmosphere killing, which is by far the most humane slaughter method available. Here’s what PETA VP Bruce Friedrich has to say about the decision:

“While we want Chipotle’s customers to stick to great vegetarian options on the menu, the company should be commended for taking steps to improve the dying conditions of some of the animals that are killed for its restaurants.”

    2. Harris Teeter grocery chain, which recently adopted an extremely progressive new animal welfare policy after speaking with our corporate communications department, has agreed to stop promoting Ringling Bros. after we reported animal cruelty to the company.
    3. Just hours after PETA issued a warning about a brutal demonstration planned for the Discovery Science Center in Orange County (they were about to put an elephant in a giant bubble), the center posted a statement on its website that they had canceled the event. …

All of this in the last couple of weeks. Boo ya!

For a little behind-the-scenes information about our corporate communications department, which has been integral to many of these tasks, check out this article recently appeared in Boston Globe…

I have another victory ahead, but it is so great that it deserves a separate post. Keep in touch!
