In 2018, Russia banned the use of wild animals, which are often tethered, muzzled, or otherwise restricted, as bait to train hunting dogs. But despite a nationwide ban, Russian animal activists recently received shocking footage of dogs attacking a chained brown bear at one of these illegal training grounds southwest of Moscow, in a region where at least 18 of the these objects.
The video shows two dogs barking, clicking and pacing around the bear, which appears to be trying to defend itself. The facility also reportedly contained a badger and wild boar, which they tortured in training. It is clear that no one these animals, including dogs, who are often subjected to painful punishments when trained to hunt, want to be forced to engage in these violent and dangerous interactions.
Hunting tears apart families and often results in the slow and painful death of the victims. It also makes people less susceptible to violence. The Russian authorities need to do more to enforce the ban at the bullying station, so PETA Germany called on President Vladimir Putin to take immediate action.
